孟子說:「誰要當面說出子路的缺點，他就特別高興（子路，人告之以有過則喜）；禹聽見別人提意見，就行禮感謝；大舜了不起的地方是：樂於放下自己的觀點，聽取他人，所以能從耕稼陶漁開始，最後作了天子。」

「聞過則喜」指虛心接受意見。

"Zi Lu, a student of Confucius, was always very happy whenever someone pointed out his shortcomings face to face. The legendary Chinese emperor Yu always sincerely thanked every person who criticized him. The most extraordinary thing about the legendary Chinese emperor Da Sun is that he never held onto his own opinions stubbornly and was always happy to learn from others.
