Taiwan is among many Asian countries facing the double blow of slowing economic growth and rising inflation.

"We are only reflecting the cost of international oil gas prices and to avoid the psychological impact of inflation, the inflation will become effective starting from midnight of May 28."

Economists expected May's Consumer Price Index to climb by 4.4 percent from a year earlier, higher than April's figure, and has a current forecast of 2.8 percent for the full year.
經濟學家預期五月份消費者物價指數，比四月份的數字高，較去年同期上揚4.4個百分點，目前預測全年的指數是2.8個百分點。

The government will also lift power prices on July 1st.
台灣政府也將在7月1日提高電費價格。
