新竹縣橫山鄉九讚頭印象。

我祖母的娘家在新竹橫山鄉九讚頭，小時候常跟父親一起去爸爸叫「表的」（表兄弟）家作客。舊曆新年，他們橫山鄉會舉辦閹鷄比賽，表叔的大公鷄常拿到冠軍第一等。因為那大閹鷄稱重時，竟可達十幾二十斤，真可稱作「鷄王」了。

表叔家住在一條河流旁邊，他們挖就一漥埤塘，引入河水，裡面養有許多大「黑鰡」，重的可達六七十斤，也可稱作「魚王」了。我在那兒交到兩位鄰居的同齡朋友，有一個喜歡下棋，曾經和他在池塘裡的小舢板上討教圍棋，其樂融融。

池塘邊表叔他們還疊有幾座稻草堆，稻草堆旁的鷄、鴨、鵝群也塞滿了我的記憶。

Impression of Jiuzantou, Hengshan Township, Hsinchu County.

My grandma's family lived in Jiuzantou, Hengshan Township, Hsinchu County. I often accompanied my father to visit my cousins' house. A castrated rooster contest was held in Hengshan Township during the Lunar New Year. My uncle's big rooster often won first place. That big rooster weighed almost 20 pounds, and was so heavy it could be called the "rooster king."

My uncle's house sat next to a river. They dug out a pond and kept black carp in it. They weighed as much as 60-70 pounds, so "fish kings" would be a fitting name for them. Over there, I met two friends who were about my age. One of them liked to play chess and I used to pay chess with him on the little sampan in the pond, and we had a lot of fun.

There were several straw piles next to the pond, and I still have vivid memories of chickens, docks, and geese wondering around the straw piles. ＠
