這張畫幾乎不使用毛筆，所有的形象，線條都是拓印而成。岩石、山壁用塑膠袋剪成片條狀來印拓，樹林則用小樹枝沾墨壓上去，以樹枝拓印而成大樹，更有樹林的韻味。

不過，上色時還是免不了使用毛筆，目前仍然沒有什麼東西可以替代毛筆。

這種拓印的過程是先把沾滿墨漬的紙片、塑膠片、草莖等隨意地攤壓在紙上，等墨汁乾了再上色。和一般吾人習見的傳統水墨畫很不一樣。至於題名定為「消夏圖」，就是台灣夏天真是太熱了，如果有這麼一處草木蘢蔥，流水淙淙，一波如鏡的美景，空氣中泛流的涼意就足以讓人們「消暑一夏」了。

I barely used a brush when making this painting, and most of the lines were printed using various objects. I cut a plastic bag into strips to print the rocks and cliffs, and used twigs dipped in ink to create the forest. I used branches to print larger trees, which enhance the mood of the forest.

I couldn't avoid using a brush when I applied colors. There is still nothing that can completely replace a brush.

This printing process involves first dipping a piece of paper, plastic, or grass in ink, and then pressing it on the paper. I then apply colors after the ink has dried. This is quite different from commonly used traditional ink and wash painting. The title "Escaping the Summer Heat" alludes to the fact that summers in Taiwan are scorching hot. The grass, trees, and herbs, flowing water, lovely scenery, and cool air represented in this painting should be sufficient to let people escape the heat of summer.@
