【大紀元2月24日訊】第一次真正聽到這首《奇異恩典》，是我在大二暑假時參加了長老教會所辦「暑期英語營」的時候。當時對於教會、聖歌都抱持著開放的態度，我只把《奇異恩典》當成和披頭四的流行歌曲一般看待。
那時沒有網路、沒有免費的維基百科，也不知道《奇異恩典》填詞者約翰·牛頓是用他的親身經歷來撰寫的，他原本是一個道德敗壞、販賣奴隸的船長，後來悔改成為解放奴隸、伺奉上帝的議員。
當時我只把這首歌當成是一個教徒的見證，後來才知道它不是什麼黑人靈歌，而是一首流傳達300多年的蘇格蘭民謠，不僅流行於整個英倫三島，而且還隨著移民進入美洲新大陸，而已成為美國全國性或民間慶典活動的最主要曲目音樂之ㄧ。

當時，唯一對歌詞有意見的就是「Was blind, but now I see」（曾經盲目，如今又能看見 ）的「神蹟」。那時在「英語營」雖然也有研讀到《聖經．約翰福音》，對於其中有「醫好生來瞎眼的」的章節只當成是無稽之談。
儘管約翰·牛頓把畢生的故事都填進這首「Amazing Grace」，而自己在年輕氣盛之時卻無法很謙卑地去體會他的感受。事隔三十年後，自己才逐漸相信有些「神蹟」是解釋不來的。佛經中也有釋迦牟尼佛為瞎眼的弟子阿那律開天眼的記載。許多奇聞異象偏偏是當今的科學無法解釋的。@*
