有一次，带领一群学生去新竹芎林乡飞凤山那儿写生。还未进入目的地，半路上就被满山满谷的橘子园吸引住了。路旁有一张木牌写着：“开放试吃，出园称斤两。”都四十五十岁的太太小姐了，看到那告示牌，毫不犹豫，丢下画纸画具，冲进橘子园里，没在一片果海里。

这幅“橘红”是以工笔方式来画就的，叶子的正、反、昂、俯、翻、转，都稍做穿插安排，以求有较多的变化，布谷鸟（班鸠）则是很常见的留鸟，特地把它们放大来欣赏。

I once took a group of students to sketch on Mt. Feifeng at Chiunglin in Hsinchu County. Before we arrived, we stopped to look at the many mandarin orange groves along the way. A wooden sign by the road said: "Try them for free; they must be weighed and paid for if taken out of the orchard." The forty- and fifty-year-old ladies with me immediately put down their sketchbooks and pencils when they saw this sign, and disappeared into the depths of the orchard.

In this painting I used a realistic style to portray mandarin orange trees. For the sake of variety, the leaves are shown from many angles and in many positions. The cuckoo is a very common local bird, and I enlarged these two so viewers can appreciate them better. ＠
