濠上有兩個人雙手趴在拱橋的護欄上欣賞濠裡的游魚。不知何故，他們倆開始爭論魚是否快樂的問題，一個說魚很快樂，一個不以為然。最後講輸的那個開始抓對方的語病，一味地強辯，無論如何，他要辯贏。

其實，魚快樂不快樂，問魚就知道。如果魚不回答，我們也可以代答：（一）水乾淨且無農藥污染嗎？（二）動不動就用釣餌魚鉤伺候嗎？（三）每天在橋上走動，不但大聲講話，還為了魚是否快樂的問題爭論不休，魚看見人影，躲都躲不及了，又怎麼能夠快樂起來呢。

Above the ditch, two people are hunched over the railing of the arched bridge, appreciating the fishes swimming in the water below. For some reason, the two people begin to argue about whether the fish are happy. One believes that the fish are happy, and the other disagrees. Finally, the person losing the argument starts finding fault with the other person's words. They continue to bicker, and each is determined to win the dispute.

Actually, we merely have to ask the fish to find out whether they are happy or unhappy. If the fish do not answer, we can answer on their behalf: (1) Is the water clean and free from pesticides and other pollutants? (2) Are people constantly fishing using bait? (3) If people walk on the bridge every day, and not only talk loudly, but also argue incessantly about the question of whether fish are happy or not, the fish will see the people's forms, and won’t be able to hide; in this situation, how can the fish be happy? ＠
