“山色不如归意浓。”

不晓得是哪位古人的佳诗美句，颇能表达出征人归心似箭的心境。

旅人骑驴载物，踥踥而归，纵然山色美极，入眼入画，也无心伫足观赏。

这是一种诗意的触发，古人作这样的诗，我们就依诗意作这样的画。至于画面的呈现是否跟诗人内心的画境相同，我们不敢确定。所谓“作者是然，观者未必不是然”，应该就是这样看照了。

本图的树林，我们用小树枝来拓印，虽然是小枝叶，却有林木幽深的趣味；每一棵树都有不同的姿态，东倒西歪，把旅人的家团团围住，且用绿叶、紫花荫着它。

"Seeing the mountains cannot compare with my emotion on homecoming."

I can't recall which ancient verse or aphorism can best express the piercing feelings of a homecoming traveler.

The traveler is riding a donkey, carrying his things, as he slowly returns home. In spite of the beauty of the high mountains, the impatient traveler does not feel inclined to stop and gaze at them.

This scene is full of poetic inspiration. The ancients wrote poems expressing this kind of idea, and we make paintings inspired by their poetry. But we have no way of telling whether what we portray in the pictures is the same as what the poets had in mind. This is much the same thing as the saying, "Viewers do not necessarily feel what the artist feels."

I used rubbings of small branches in the forest shown in this painting. Although the branches and leaves are small, the forest is still appealingly deep and dark. The trees all have different postures, and the leaning trees surround the traveler's home, which is shaded by green leaves and violet flowers.＠
