這兒描繪的是中國大陸四川的鄉村景色。

多年前我和蔡友教授一群人赴四川九寨溝寫生。在靠近成都一處名叫「黃龍溪」的地方待了半天，對著那兒的鄉村寫生。噫，說不盡的美啊！

秋天到了，稻子成熟了，平坦而有著不同色層的稻田在我們面前延展開來。微風拂過，稻穗便上上下下擺動起伏，像波浪似的，美極了。

小河這邊的岸上長滿了芒草（應該是蘆葦），秋天一到，它們便忙著抽花長穗，露出灰白色的菅芒，隨風俯仰，秋意濃得化不開。

This is a scene from the Sichuan countryside.

Many years ago I went with Professor Tsai You and some other people to sketch Jiuzhai Gorge in Sichuan. We spent around half a day at a place called Yellow Dragon River near Chengdu, and sketched the countryside. It was indescribably beautiful.

Fall has come and the rice has ripened. Flat, differently-colored rice fields stretch out in front of us. The rice spikes sway in waves when the breeze blows. It is extraordinarily lovely.

The banks of the small creek over here are covered with tall wild grass (they are actually reeds). In the fall the grass flowers, and the grayish-white tufts lean in the wind. There is a palpable sense of autumn in the air.＠
