邇近絕少畫牡丹，一來是這類題材太多人畫著，二來這題材也舊了，老生常「畫」，沒什麼新意可言。

在這幀小橫條的右頁，我們安排三五朵大小牡丹，一片深深淺淺的花色，是主題之所在。左邊則安插兩隻小水鴨，蹲在土堆上休憩。

這種小野鴨是台灣的冬候鳥。每到冬天，淡水河的河面便麇集了成千上萬隻小水鴨，往來覓食。這時，我們只要拿一筒望遠鏡，便可欣賞得過癮了。

I have painted very few peonies lately. For one thing, too many people paint peonies, and for another, it's an old topic. Just making peony paintings wouldn't have any novelty.

I have arranged a few large and small peonies on the right side of this small horizontal scroll. The depth and lightness of the flowers' colors is the subject of the painting. The two wild ducks on the left side are resting on a pile of soil.

This kind of small wild ducks migrate to Taiwan in the winter. You can see thousands of these ducks foraging in flocks on the Danshui River in the winter. You can watch them as long as you like if you bring a telescope.＠
