Anchor: In Geneva today, Chinese officials are facing questions from the United Nations Committee Against Torture.

The Committee Against Torture is responsible for monitoring whether member states are upholding the U.N. Convention Against Torture, which China has ratified.

Nineteen human rights groups from around the world have submitted reports to the committee about China’s use of torture. These groups include the Conscience Foundation, Amnesty International, and Human Rights in China.
